Introduction & Highlights

Luoping County is located in the eastern area of Qujing Prefecture, only 240 kilometers (150 miles) east from Kunming, the capital city of Yunnan Province.

Unlike the ruggedness of other parts of Yunnan, Luoping's terrain is comparatively flat, making it a traditional agricultural county – one which has been growing rapeseed flowers for generations.

When the flowers are in full bloom, they create a dazzling sea of yellow, a truly beautiful and spectacular landscape. So stunning in fact, that the flowers attract photography enthusiasts from home and abroad.

Luoping is synonymous with the golden rapeseed flowers fields of China, with the Luoping International Rape Flowers Culture Festival held from late February to early April.

During these months, you can not only admire the yellow flowers but also watch or take part in various activities, like art performances, painting exhibitions and even a marathon through the flower sea.

Best Scenic Sites

1) Jinji Peak--Overlook the Golden Ocean

Jinji Peak, also called Jinji Peak Cluster (金鸡峰丛Golden Rooster Peak Cluster’), is resembles hundreds of small pyramids, surrounded by the flat golden rapeseed fields.

It is the best place to appreciate rapeseed flowers in Luoping, with the boundless yellow sea spread out before you. It’s also a perfect place to shoot the sunrise and sunset.

If you are lucky enough to encounter mist during the morning light, the foggy mountains and wafting clouds will make you feel like you’re in a fairyland.

Climbing on the Jinji Peak, the canola fields seem flat with the solitary peaks in the distance, which look very beautiful and grand.

Standing on top of the mountain, you get a panoramic view on Jinji Peak Cluster. Various cone-shaped hills with different shapes are dotted across the boundless green and yellow ocean in different seasons.

2)Luosi Fields -- Admire the Spiraling Rapeseed Terraces

Luosi Fields (螺丝田‘Screw Fields’) is another great place to photograph the rapeseed flowers. The terraced fields are ring-like in appearance, kind of spiral patterns on screws, when seen from a distance.

Compared to the majestic rapeseed fields around Jinji Peak, the Luositian fields are small and exquisite. Its a natural landscape formed by beaded karst funnels and remains a rare sight. The depth of the landscape hits 50 metres, offering different visions across the seasons, with varying crops altering the shapes and colours on show.
