Famously known as one of the deepest gorges in the world, the Tiger Leaping Gorge is 16 kilometres long and a giddy 3900 metres from the waters of the Jinsha River.
It is a Tibetan town in Shangri-la County, that was first constructed in the 7th century as a stopping point on the Tea Horse Road and a station for Han-Tibetan trade.
Many people are drawn to witness the sunrise as it hits the mountain range in the morning and lights up the snowy peaks in gold sunlight, starting with Kawagebo and then spreading to the other peaks.
Diqing, which means “a place of good luck” is a Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture located at the juncture of Yunnan, Tibet and Sichuan, and the home of the legendary Shangri-La, the fairy tale land of eternal peace described in the novel “Lost Horizon.”
