The ancient Chinese craft of bamboo weaving has been practiced in Yiliang County since the time of the Song Dynasty, which reigned in China during the years 960-1279.

It is the oldest form of religious painting of the Naxi people, and their proudest and most characteristic artistic legacy.

Zhaotong in the northeast of Yunnan borders on Sichuan and Guizhou provinces and was historically the gateway through which culture and commerce flowed in and out of Yunnan to the rest of China. It also offers rich natural beauty with its waterfalls, canyons, virgin forest, caves and rivers.

Dehong on the western edge of Yunnan has a 300-mile border with Myanmar and a place where the culture and commerce of the two countries blend harmoniously to produce rich cultural cross fertilization. It’s also a popular destination for its jadeite and other mineral resources.

Pu’er borders Vietnam, Laos and Myanmar, and is famous as the center of tea trade since been the time of the Tang Dynasty of 618 – 907. It draws many tourists who are drawn by its Pu erh tea and tea culture.

Lincang is a lush, fertile territory near the Lancang River, famous for the production of black tea. It’s the home of 23 ethnic minorities. Its subtropical low-latitude mountain monsoon climate attracts many tourists.

Baoshan was historically the starting point of the Southwest Silk Road to India and is rich with ancient temples, towns and villages. It is also popular for its thermal springs.

Lijiang is a city in the northwest of Yunnan province well known for its Old City, a UNESCO World Heritage Site dating back to the 13th Century, but with ancient cave paintings and archaeological relics dating to prehistory.

Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture is in the south of Yunnan Province, inhabiting the far southern reaches of China near the neighboring countries of Laos, Myanmar and Thailand.
